Dr. Michael Weisberg has been a practicing gastroenterologist for over 28 years in Plano, Texas. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He has been recognized as a ‘Super-Doctor’ by Texas Monthly and named to D Magazine’s list of best doctors eight times. Dr. Weisberg also serves as a board member of Digestive Health Associates of Texas. The Hospitalist was Dr. Weisberg’s first novel. He also did a TED talk based on ‘how the art of medicine has become a business in the 21st century’. We’ll be discussing his second novel, which is called In The End.

Mark and Karyn have a combined 50+ years of experience to offer to your family. “Our sole purpose is to make your life easier at a time when you have difficult choices to make regarding the future of a loved one.”
Like many others who have chosen this field, Mark and Karyn have a very personal connection with the families they work with because of their own experiences supporting family members with chronic illness.
Early in Mark’s career as a Financial Advisor his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The next 10 years would require Mark to play the roles of a full time employee, husband, father to two young girls, part-time caregiver and full-time manager of his mother’s financial affairs. “I was faced with decisions I was unprepared for”, says Mark. “I had to make housing decisions for her, and I even had to interpret my mother’s intentions about life support”.
It was at that time that Mark shifted his focus to Financial Planning and helping families with long-term care, Estate Planning and Income Protection issues. He received the CLU® designation from The American College. The CLU® is widely considered to be the most respected insurance designation in the industry and underscores Mark’s dedication to his specialization in life insurance and Estate Planning.
Having been employed as a consultant for Hartford Life, Prudential Life and several independent general agencies, Mark worked with clients of firms such as Edward Jones, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, US Bank, Union Bank, RW Baird, RBC and Morgan Stanley.
In this capacity, Mark helped thousands of clients protect their loved ones over the last 15 years.
So why Senior Care Authority? According to Mark, “Helping people when they need it the most feels good. When we had just a few weeks to find 24-hour care for my mother, I took time off from work and flew to Las Vegas to help my sister search for an assisted living facility. After three days of searching, we realized there were just too many choices, we felt we had not made any progress and we didn’t really know what to do and what questions to ask. “
“It seems that there is a big need for a “Concierge Service” to take some of the weight off of family members who find themselves in a situation they did not ask to be in. Our services allow families to spend more time with their loved ones and less time stressing the details.
Karyn explains.. “Shirley was Mark’s mother who had late stage Alzheimer’s and was wheelchair bound. Watching my daughter, Kaitlyn (7-years old at the time) volunteer to visit with grandma Shirley often and then comfort her by holding her hand and stroking her hair made me so proud of her and I realize how much compassion children have for the elderly. That experience taught me a lot about the importance of having a safe place for people in all stages of life to live.”
With an MBA and formal IBM training, Karyn also spent years as a mortgage loan consultant and a realtor. This experience gives Karyn a unique perspective on the relocation and moving process from financial details to finding the right neighborhood, and the right fit for your loved one.
Often, when moving a loved one the family needs to raise cash or create income. Karyn assists family members to make difficult decisions about how to handle newly vacated real estate and are faced with property management and/or sell vs. rent decisions.
Today Mark and Karyn spend much of their time touring and reviewing local living communities – including assisted living, independent living, dementia and memory care, and residential care homes – to help their clients make the best possible decision for their loved ones. They meet one on one with families to assess needs, accompany them on tours of pre-approved facilities, assist with negotiations and paperwork, and follow-up with the senior after a placement is made.
